David Westerman graduated from the University of Melbourne and holds dual fellowships. He has been Head of Haematopathology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre since 2000.

In addition to this role, he serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Pathology and Chair of the Transfusion Medicine Committee. He also holds honorary appointments with the University of Melbourne through St Vincent’s Hospital Clinical School and the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology. He is a member of the RCPA Immunophenotyping Committee.

His clinical, laboratory, and academic interests span teaching, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and flow cytometry, with a particular focus on measurable residual disease (MRD). He leads Australia’s premier diagnostic flow cytometry laboratory. His research interests also extend to molecular haematology and biomarkers, and he has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications.
